"If someone bit you I could tell. Come home so I can smell you."

Author: Kim Harrison
Book: Every Which Way But Dead

What are friends for except people to look after you when they think you're being stupid? Of course you might not always agree that you're being stupid, but thats not important in the end. That someone cares enough for no reason other than they chose to is what counts. How great is that when it happens?! Rachel may feel like Ivy is smothering her at times, but it's totally sweet and endearing to read about. You can just feel how much Ivy cares about Rachel and depends on her, and Ivy would know better than anyone the consequences of being bound to someone else's will. So I'm on Ivy's side when it comes to Rachel doing stupid stuff. It makes the book interesting though!

So Leah's blog thoroughly outlined the events in the book and gave an idea of where all the characters stand. Thanks to her and her crazy writing skills, I am therefore able to just focus on several key plot points that I have a strong opinion on.

Since Ceri appears almost immediately at the beginning of the book, that is where I will start. She is an old as hell elf and even though the demon Al broke her will while being his familiar, once she got her soul back she got her attitude back. I would love to know what the hell Rachel thinks she is doing making decisions for everyone else?! It only pisses people off and gets her into trouble. If Ceri could help save her dying people shouldn't she have that option? And! based on her manipulation of ley line magic and Al, it would appear she can take care of herself pretty damn well. I don't think Trent would stand a chance against her especially since he is so young in comparison. As far as Ceri knows she is the last of her kind. How lonely could that seem? It just pisses me off how Rachel thinks she knows better than everyone else. She did the same thing to Jenks and look how that turned out?!
Yes, Jenks has a huge ego and feels he has something to prove being only four inches tall. He is not an idiot though. If Rachel and Ivy had just thought about it and realized that by making it clear how telling anyone else about Trent's species would endanger Jenks's family, he could totally have been trusted. Instead they both felt that they should make decisions for him and he found out and left. So while this book was great, there was a void that used to be filled with Jenks's sarcasm and levity. He has to come back. Ivy and Rachel will just ruin everything without him.
The last main point that I am very intrigued by is the event of Rachel becoming part of a Were pack. How fun would that be? It is just so crazy how each different species within the Hollows has their own social structure in addition to the Hollows' society as a whole. I can't wait to see where this takes Rachel. Which is why I'm cutting this short and going on to read the next book!=D

Back from Zombie Land

Book: The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
Author: Kim Harrison

Ok, so here's the thing...I read the second book and loved it. But...that was right before I went off to inhabit Zombie land that I am assuming most people visit before they get married. I was not very pretty, lost all capacity for intelligent communication, and would take large chunks of metaphorical flesh out of anyone who irritated me. My wedding with Leah's help + Charlie, went beautifully and it could not have been more perfect. But right up until the day before I was not really here. So that is my defense for the huge gap between my blogs and Leah's. Also for the fact that I know I loved the second book, but can't really remember enough to right my own original blog. That is why I am going to right a quick response to Leah's blog on "The Good, the Bad, and the Undead", before starting fresh on the next one. I'm all for fresh starts. They help me so much when I get distracted which is all the freaking time!

I loved the idea of picking actors to play the characters in the book! Not so sure about some of Leah's choices though. She went for the obvious actors which is totally okay, but some just didn't quite fit...to me;P So here are my picks:

Ivy: Rhona Mitri because she is perfect for Ivy! Shined as a vampire in Underworld; Rise of the Lycans and isn't so well known as Angelina Jolie so she would steal the spotlight from
Rachel. Also, is more svelte that Jolie which is how Ivy is described in the books.
Jenks: Ryan Renolds mostly just because he is the closest to what I imagine Jenks looks like. He isn't quite as sarcastic but I think there is definite potential there. He is funny and sensitive and would look pretty natural as a pixie. Again not quite as big a personality as
Jim Carey either.
Trent: He is a tough one just because he has to have a dark and light side, but at the same time look good with almost white hair. So so difficult. It's not quite how I picture him looking,
but I think that Craig Parker from Lord of the Rings would do well. (Don't roll your eyes,
Leah. Look him up and think about it) But Jude Law was a good option also. I just think
he isn't...aloof enough to be an elf.
Piscary: He should so be Ben Kingsley. There isn't anything else to say.

Otherwise I totally agree with Rachel being Rachel McAdams and Kist being Bradley Cooper, and Nick being Jake Gyllenhaal. They are perfect.

So this concludes my blog attempt for this book. Sorry it was kinda brief but it will get better! Promise=)

Floating Hair, Honey Intoxication, Owls in the Belfry, and Hidden Freckles

So the first book, Dead Witch Walking, was as fun and wonderful as I remembered! It does start out a little chaotic but still manages to draw you in as you find out little bits and pieces about each character. The fact that I had read it before didn't diminish how much I enjoyed reading it this time. Vaguely remembering something that happens later only created more anticipation for what would be on the next page. That by itself should mark this as a great book. Somethings should not/could not be read again.

I loved all of the characters except possibly Nick. He just seems too weak to be in the mix. I mean how ominous is it that Rachel met him while he was a rat??? Even Captain Edden, who doesn't have a hint of magic around him seems more powerful than Nick. But I guess he(Nick) is kinda sweet though, so we'll see how he turns out;)

Jenks and Ivy are perfect partners for Rachel. Getting drunk off of honey and spouting poetry after battle tells you all you need to know about Jenks. Who knew pixies could be so awesome??! I just always thought of Tinker Bell, who by the way is a whore according to Jenks;) Ivy is dark, dangerous, cranky, and obsessively organized as hell. I can relate to the cranky and obsessively organized parts. Too bad I missed out on the dark and dangerous traits. I just think the idea of being a living vamp is so cool! Oh, and keeping owls in the belfry just sets her apart from all the other cooky vampire characters in books. Owls are like the classy version of bats.

Then there is Trent, who is being set up as the mysterious nemesis. You can't hate the guy. It's just impossible especially after looking through Rachel's eyes and witnessing his irritation at the fact his hair floats occasionally on an invisible breeze. How annoying and fun would that be!? To have hair that floats randomly? Despite reading all of this before, I can not for the life of me remember who sent the demon, but it can't be Trent. That would have just been too evil for his character.

Rachel is of course the bad ass in these books. She always pulls some crazy magic trick out of her bag of charms (which I still don't get how they work by the way). But she is still real. Who wouldn't want a pinkie ring to hide their freckles? I know I would occasionally. She isn't unbelievable. She is exactly what we want in a champion. Someone who recognizes what is at stake and will still dip their hands in soul smut to save the day.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the other characters in the book. They are all the perfect community. These four (not including Nick) just have a special place in my book lover's heart. So like you Leah, I can't wait to read more and find out what happens to them next :D

Time to Start

I swear that it takes me longer than anyone to get something started. I have great(big, not necessarily good) ideas, like starting a long distance book club so my best friend and I can still do something together despite the 1800 mile gap between our lives, but I tend to think about the ideas rather than actually do them. Just like I have great ideas for my wedding, but here it is three months away and I am scrambling to get even the most basic of stuff done. Ridiculous! But as Leah helps me step by step with this huge event in my life, I realize how important this one idea among many is. To share something that isn't riddled with stress and fear(not about getting married, but making everything perfect). So it's time to start having fun together!

About the first book: I have already read much of the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison, but it has been so long that I thought I would enjoy rereading them. Also, Leah and I have always shared a love for the supernatural but in different areas, so I was hoping that this book would be a "middle ground" we could start on. We may read the whole series or just a few before moving on to something else.

I don't know what course this idea will take or even how long it will last, but it has been a long time since I have let myself feel the giddy excitement of sinking into a book. Even longer since I have been able to share that excitement with someone. I think it is time to get started and see if that ability to completely lose myself in a book is still there or if it has changed too like so many other things.
